Bowness:-
Very much the tourism area of Bowness/Windermere.
Bowness claims the oldest portion of the
settlement. Narrow streets clustered behind St
Martin's church include buildings more than 300 years
old or more. Many houses were lived in by boatmen
or fishermen. The town centre of Bowness, with
many shops, restaurants and a vibrant nightlife, looks
over the lake of Windermere. Bowness is the area
most weekend tourists frequent with water sports
being the most popular attraction.
Windermere:-
A 19th century settlement with a host of shops, inns and
restaurants. A railway station is the terminus of
the branch line from Oxenholme, an important access to
the district.
