Summary:-

An historic maritime gateway to the Furness Peninsula.  A victorian town with a proud heritage.  It is Cumbria's largest town with major national stores and a pedestrain shopping area.  A large retail park including a Superbowl and Multiplex cinema.

Furness Abbey
Founded by medieval monks in 1123.  Magnificent ruins well worth a visit.

Gleaston Watermill
Situated between Barrow and Ulverston, a working water wheel sending out its jets of water as in the days gone by.  Learn the facts about the water mil and sense the atmosphere.  Refreshments available.

Piel Island
Just off the coast with its 14th century castle (English Heritage).  Served by the Roa Island ferry service.
