A stone
built market town, situated by the River Rothay at the
northern end of Lake Windermere, 5 miles from Bowness.
It has a beautiful scenic backdrop of mountains and is
very popular with tourists.
The
town by Lake District standards is a thriving community
summer and winter alike, very popular with hikers.
The town centre is approximately half a mile from the
steamer pier at Waterhead.

The Bridge House
A graceful structure seen on many postcards astrides
Stock Beck by the side of the main road. Formerly
the apple store to Ambleside Hall, now a National Trust
information centre and small shop.
How Head
Close to a converted chapel, dates in part from the 15th
century, most likely the oldest building in town.
The
Armitt
Situated beyond Bridge House a local history library and
collection, expanded into an interactive exhibition of
Lakeland life and times. Water colours by Beatrix
Potter. A gift shop is also available. Open
all year 10:00 - 17:00.
